I've had enough of different worlds

Who: Sheena Fujibayashi
When: Right after arrival
What: Rudely interrupted from trying to finish a mission

One minute, Sheena had been running across a grassy field, on her way to Meltokio to meet up with Zelos and exchange information-

And next she was in a strange city she had never seen before. Considering she had gone from flying cities to ones in the middle of the Ymir Forest, saying this place was strange was saying something.

Drawing out her spell cards, Sheena looked around, eyes narrowing. Her senses were high and her brown eyes narrowed. There was something...strange in the air. Something was off and she couldn't place it but it worried her.

But she was strong; she had been through more than her fair share of weird things and whether it be an angel hell bent on destroying all living beings, or demons from the underworld, Sheena was ready.

A noise sounded behind her and she turned quick as a flash, her ninja senses taking focus.

"Come out, whoever is there!"

Sheens looked at the man, Roy, and cocked her head.

"Do they not have them in...well, wherever you came from? They're like assassins, spies, working to gain information. Basically we operate in the shadows and perform whatever job we've been assigned."

She looked down at the dog, wondering why it was there. But the companion made her miss Corrine as she always would.

"This is the second time this has happened to me too. Well, third if you count the Ginnungagap and Niflheim."

Dark eyes stared sightlessly in front of him, and his face was slightly off from where hers was; a common thing amongst the blind.

"Not by that name, no. Assassins and spies I know." his smile was wry, "For a while it seemed like everyone I met worked in the shadows, but then again it turned out all the conspiracy theorists were wrong...but only in scope."

Sheena pursed her lips gently at the man's off vision. Was he...blind? She dare not ask and put her foot in her mouth.

"I don't get what you mean but at least you understand. Do you suppose we should get somewhere else?"

"Don't worry about it." Roy said with a sigh that wasn't directed at her at all, "Lets just say that the world was damn confusing. Hungry? I was following the city's directions to a restaurant of some kind. I'm a horrible cook, what with not having known much about it before I was blind. Learning to cook blind..." he grimaced, "The best I can say is edible."

Sheena nodded to herself, a little sad at the man's disability but happy to help him if he needed it.

"I'm starving actually. Ah...did you know where to go? Do you need help getting there?"

"That's what my best girl is for." he said, giving Merlin the command to stand up again. He patted the dog's side, smiling broadly. "She keeps me from tripping, running into something or someone, and generally helps me get around. I guess I could let the city give me directions and guidance, but Merlin is much more reliable."

He then said, "City, directions from current position?"

"TWO BLOCKS NORTH, ONE WEST. SECOND DOOR ON YOUR RIGHT. A SPOKEN MENU WILL BE PROVIDED."

Sheena's eyes widened and she let out a small surprised sound.

"That's amazing! I've only ever seen Summon Spirits that intelligent. So she guides you around, huh?"

Roy headed in the direction that the city told him, Merlin keeping him from running into things, "She's a good dog. Just a dog, though...a very well trained dog. I hate being blind, but I do love my good girl." Merlin's tail wagged rapidly at being called good twice.

Sheena smiled, though it was gentle and sad.

"I used to have a companion I loved like that. His name was Corrine, and he was a man made Summon Spirit. But he was my partner and my friend."

The woman sighed and shook her head.

"But he's gone. I'll always remember and love him. He saved my life."

"I know that feeling." Roy said quietly, remembering so, so many lost people from war, and other forms of death, "It hurts, doesn't it? I can't say it'll get better, but it'll get easier. Eventually."

Sheena nodded gently, looking down and wondering if she could confide in this man. But he had been kind to her, and she knew that what she had done was something she'd have to live with.

"It hasn't yet. Corrine wasn't the only one I lost. He died saving my life from a Summon Spirit named Volt. See, I'm not just a ninja, but a summoner too. I can call upon the elemental spirits in the world and ask for their help.

"When I was young, I tried to make a pact with Volt, but I couldn't do it. He became enraged and ended up killing almost half of my village. To this day there are still people that blame me for the deaths of people they knew and loved. And all those people's blood are my hand. But I made a choice to stand up and fight, keep pushing."

She looked to the man and nodded, though the action was lost on the man.

"What does making a pact entail? Why didn't it work?" he asked, trying to draw her out and get more information. It helped, sometimes, to talk.

She sighed and rubbed the back of her head.

"I'm not sure how well I'll be able to explain it to someone who doesn't already know the lore of my land. But I'll try to put it simply."

She took a breath before attempting her explanation.

"Volt was always a...more temperamental Summon Spirit. He was one of the few that didn't speak our human tongue, and had been...burned in the past by the person who made a pact with him previously."

She gritted her teeth, trying not to think on Mythos Yggdrasill. This was not his story.

"And so, he refused to make a pact with me. When I begged him, it made him enraged and he attacked..."

"I'm probably missing most of it," Roy said, turning into the restaurant when the city directed, "but I think I get the gist of it. Why did you need him specifically?"

"Originally, I needed his power to harness and use to power our magitechnology. But when I finally did make a pact with him, I needed it to sever the links between our two worlds so that they wouldn't have to vie for each other's mana anymore."

She bit her lip and gave a small smile.

"I'm sure this all sounds like complete and utter nonsense. I'm really not good at explaining things. That was always Raine's place, or even Kratos'."

"Don't worry about it, I'm good at putting pieces together. You're not the first person to give me a disorganised report. The bright side is that this one, as far as I know, does not come complete with near-immortal homunculi wanting to use me as a sacrifice as part of a plot to kill everyone in my country and help their creator swallow God."

There were things he did not miss about home. He did want to know if his people lived, though.

Her eyes widened before she cracked a wide smile.

"Dear Undine, and I thought my life was complicated. We should compare notes one night," she said, half joking.

"Haha!" he laughed at the joke, "We do that and Gordon will want to join in, I'm sure. I don't know what it is she does, exactly, but that's because I don't understand anything she says after 'global resource management'."

Roy was not a techy.

Sheena laughed again, shaking her head as she looked around the restaurant.

"Well then, what are we doing here?"

"There should be a folder in front of you. It's full of different kinds of food. Then you'll tell the city what you want, and it will be brought to you. Or you can listen when it tells me what things are." that was wry. As mentioned, the city did begin listing various foods that they could order.

"You think they have ramen here?"

It was one of the few things from her journey with the others that she was very good at making.

"Of course anything is better than Raine's cooking. She thought that mustard and peanut butter pickles was a good food."

Sheena cringed and shook her head.

"I honestly don't know." he said to her question, "I don't know what ramen is."

The city popped in with; "RAMEN CAN BE PROVIDED!"

getting a "STOP YELLING, DAMN IT!" from the blind man.

Sheena chuckled gently at the exchange, biting her lip before she could continue.

"Ramen is just essentially noodles. It can be prepared many different ways."

"I hate this city." Roy grumbled, "You'd think that it'd be helpful, with the blindness and all, but noooooooo the damn thing just yells. Noodles is a pretty broad description."

Sheena smiled and nodded gently.

"At least it's trying to help? Noodles that can be prepared with meat, vegetables, things of that nature. Ramen in a broad range, it's true."
