I carry my home within me

Who:Khemrys, Any
When: At the start of things
What: A healer stumbles through a portal to find a role such as she has held before.

The cube world she had grown comfortable upon had...faltered. The Elo that had bound her shattered when she stepped upon the paths and she could feel her own world and the Hunt calling her home. The answer, as ever, was to run. There was no bridge back to her temporary sanctuary, but she could flee the bonds of her own world until the feeling stretched and strained and finally snapped, allowing a greater Need to rush in and pluck her from the darkness.

When she woke it was in a simple, molded chair in a hospital built on a larger scale than the one she had worked in previously. The fitful flashing of the Emergency room lights brightened as she watched, flooding the rooms around her with clear, clean light. "Hello Doctor," the voice came over the PA system, simple and clinical.

"Hello?" she offered in kind. "Where is this?"

"The hospital, will you take up a term of service here doctor?"

"...yes, if there is need?"

"Your account will be credited monthly, have a nice day doctor!"

Well, that was certainly...odd? One could probably follow her progress through the hospital by the floors that lit up the moment she came off each set of stairs. This empty hospital had a doctor now, mayhap there would be need in time. For now, well, best she familiarize herself with the layout? Abandoned or no it seemed as if someone or something felt a doctor may be needed...and the longer she kept herself busy the less time she had to mourn the loss of the home she had built.

"Cracks and shards, I had not thought to check my Elo," Tazendra said. "But the lantern I carried as a finder has gone out, and I feel that bodes ill."

Tazendra looked around. "I have only seen enough to conclude we are not in Penrose, and not likely in my own world. You see, the chairs are sized for a person of your size."

"Not without assistance, or a great deal of study. That was not in my studies of sorcery."

Which, come to think about it, made Tazendra wonder if she'd kept Penrosian magic with her. Her theory had been that she could use Penrose's magic because of her connection with the Lantern, just as she'd done with the Orb in her home. But if the Elos were gone and shattered, and her lantern was extinguished...

"Your finding brother, yes. Ah, on that matter, have you seen Loki?" Tazendra wondered. If she was going to be in another strange place, and again alone among the people from her world, at least she wanted people she knew.

"I will have to seek him out, then. Should you see him again, assure him of my good health."

"The former," Tazendra said. "We are not even the same species." She didn't remember what Loki's native species called itself, only that he was adopted and had become a god, and that he was one of the few people who was as old as Tazendra thought he looked.

"Nor the light of the Lantern," Tazendra agreed. "Nor is it my own world, for I still cannot sense the Orb or the Great Sea."

She considered this. "Closer to your own? Are you a god?"

"Ah. As the Serioli are in my own world," Tazendra said. "It is said they lived in the world long before my own race and the Easterners arrived. Though they are reclusive."

"Then you are not a different species than the newer comers," Tazendra said. She knew only a bit of genetics, but what she knew told her that this was more like individual talents rather than the differences in bloodlines.

"Three or four children is not so few," Tazendra said. "I have known marriages that lasted for hundreds of years and produced only a child or two."

Granted, one needed the better part of a hundred years to raise a Dragaeran child to an age where they could fend for themselves.
